As an instructor at SUNY Buffalo, my experience was in video production, specifically documentary filmmaking and teaching the online course Immigration and Film.  These courses were drastically different and I had separate approaches to both.  Having taught online helped me bring blackboard and online discussion threads to the production courses.  The only similarity between them was that in both, students watched films and wrote responses.  Students were encouraged to learn how to speak about films and to analyze them.  Collaborative work was encouraged and learning how to artfully critique projects was and is a focus of mine.

Currently I teach either one on one, or in workshop settings, or conduct specific media based workshops in courses at the University of Richmond for the Center for Teaching, Learning & Technology.  Here is my blog on how art may intersect with technology and thoughts on academic technology in higher ed today.
